Overview

Get a taste of ancient Southeast Asia on your trip to Cambodia. The erstwhile Khmer empire boasts of stunning landscapes, pristine beaches and exotic temples. There’s a mix of both the old and the new that will leave you in total awe. 

  • Feel Cambodia with Koh Ker. In 928 Koh Ker instead of Angkor became the capital of the Khmer empire, during the reign of King Jayavarman IV and his son. The landmark of Koh Ker is the perfect step pyramid belonging to the vast complex of King Jayavarman's state temple Prasat Thom.
  • Discover Beng Mealea, also known as the Jungle Temple, that provides a fantastic opportunity to experience an Angkor temple as it would have been for hundreds of years; overtaken by jungle, visited only by birds, and local children playing games in the ruins.
  • Visit the Angkor Silk Farm, such an outstanding place to visit. It offers free tours of its fabulous farm that explains the lifecycle of a silk worm and how this becomes silk thread to the finished product.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Siem Reap. Warmly welcome by our Cambodian tour guide.

In the afternoon, visit the wonderful Angkor Wat – one of the seven greatest architectural wonders of the world, start with the temple and mausoleum for King Suryavarman II at the peak of the Khmer empire in the first half of 12th. Angkor Wat is probably the best-preserved of the Angkorean temples, with a central tower surrounded by four smaller towers. The central monument represents the mythical Mount Meru, the holy mountain at the centre of the universe, which was home to the Hindu God Vishnu. The whole complex covers 81 hectares, a rectangular wall measuring 1025 meters by 800 meters borders the inner edge of the moat, and temple's greatest sculptural treasure is its 2 km-long bas-reliefs around the walls... At the end of the day, spend some time admiring the beautiful sunset in Angkor Wat. 

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Early morning, departure to Koh Ker located 140 kilometers from Siem Reap. Capital under Jayavarman IV who was in power from 928 to 942, the sovereign left Angkor and transferred his power to Koh Ker. The site is made up of 84 temples dotted in the forest. The most important monument is the Prasat Thom, a seven-level pyramid from which you will have a magnificent view of the plain of Angkor (for those who suffer from vertigo, the climb presents difficulties).

Then departure for Beng Mealea. Cleared of vegetation in 1957, Boeng Mealea is considered as one of the most remarkable Khmer temples. It was built by King Suryavarman II in the style of Angkor. The low reliefs are few, but of a high quality of execution. It served as a backdrop to the film "The Two Brothers" by Jean Jacques Annaud.

Late afternoon return to Siem Reap. Overnight in Siem Reap.

After breakfast, leave Siem Reap to Battambang at 170km away. 

On the way, discover the Silk Farm Center at Puork district to discover the entire silk creation process including growing the food for the silk worms, breeding the worms, silk extraction and refinement, traditional kit dyeing patterm creation and looming, retail silk and souvenir shop. 

Lunch at local restaurant. Arrival at Battambang, a beautiful town along the Sangker River is well known for its natural wealth and fertile soil and has many buildings dating from the time of the French protectorate, including Governor's house of the province, courthouse, the former district Chinese and its beautiful market, a beautiful example of art-deco style. 

While strolling along the banks of the Sangker River you will enjoy the special atmosphere of the city. Then drive to the station of the train-bamboo, an unprecedented experience by installing on a bamboo platform, placed on two axles train, driven by a small engine. The inhabitants have found this ingenious way to move and transport their goods. You will enjoy sunset over the surrounding countryside. 

Overnight at your hotel in Battambang.

After breakfast, road through Cambodian villages along the river to the Angkorian site of Wat Ek Phnom, buried in the lush forest, ancient Shavaiste temple whose lintels are adorned with remarkable scenes. 

On the way back, you will walk in the village bordering the road where most of the inhabitants have accustomed from the traditional factory of rice cakes steamed with boiling water. Lunch at local restaurant. Then transfer to Phnom Penh. Arrive at the hotel, check in and overnight.

Early morning depart to Sihanoukville, the journey takes around 7 hours. Lunch at local restaurant. 

Arrival at Sihanoukville, transfer by boat to Koh Rong island. Overnight.

Koh Rong is an island from the Sihanoukville province, known for its sandy coves and coral reefs. On the coast, you will enjoy nice sand pure white beache. Inside the island, the jungle is really dense and contains beautiful waterfalls, where you can go on the exploration trip via trekking trail. The island also offers you a perfect chance to embark on a boat trip and observe aquarium species by snorkelling or even diving for those who are more experimented. 

Free day at leisure to enjoy the beach or for your personal discovery.

Depart from Koh Rong to Phnom Penh. Lunch at local restaurant. Overnight in hotel.

Start the morning firstly visit to the Royal Palace compound build in 1866 by the Predecessors of King Norodom, is the most conspicuous feature and also one of impressive colorful Khmer-style Palaces. Nearside the Royal Palace is Silver Pagoda (The Emerald Buddha temple), display plenty of Buddha Statues that were decorated and made by diamond, emerald, gold and silver. 

Continue to visit to National Museum, the distinctive red building with a beautiful Khmer architecture was built since 1917 and contains more than 5,000 art objects made of sandstone, bronze, silver, copper, wood and others. We pass through the River Front park whose scenery is much worth shooting, and continue to the only one hill in town with sacred sites called Wat Phnom- the name of a pagoda, was built by lady Daun Penh in 1372 on a little hill. Legend has it that after a particularly heavy flood, a wealthy Khmer woman named Daun Penh found a tree on the banks of the Mekong with four statues of Buddha hidden inside. Today Wat Phnom remains the highest artificial hill in Phnom Penh and the center of many forms of leisure activity. 

Lunch at local restaurant. Free time until transfer to airport for departure flight to your next destination.
